In a statement marking the launch, Abiy expressed pride in the international expansion of the philosophy, which draws on Ethiopia’s indigenous knowledge and emphasizes cooperation, synergy and collective progress.
The Russian translation adds a new dimension to the book’s growing international reach. According to the Prime Minister, Medemer has already been translated into English, Chinese and Arabic, allowing its central ideas to reach audiences across different linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
Abiy said the latest edition demonstrates Ethiopia’s capacity to contribute sophisticated ideas to global intellectual discussions. He also highlighted the reciprocal nature of the cultural exchange, noting that Russia has historically influenced Ethiopian scholars and that the translation represents an opportunity for knowledge to flow in both directions.

The Ethiopian leader praised the media professionals and leadership of Russia Today (RT) for their commitment to the translation project.
He described the publication as an opportunity to build a stronger cultural and intellectual bridge between the Ethiopian and Russian peoples, reinforcing the role of literature and ideas in fostering mutual understanding.
The launch underscores Ethiopia’s efforts to broaden the international visibility of Medemer, a philosophy presented by Abiy as a framework for cooperation and shared development. Its expansion into the Russian-speaking world could further encourage exchanges between Ethiopian and Russian intellectual communities while adding a cultural dimension to the two countries’ longstanding relationship.
