Ethiopian Ambassador Daba Debele held discussions with Kono Taro, a member of Japan’s House of Representatives and Director-General of the International Bureau of Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).
At the beginning of the meeting, Ambassador Daba briefed Kono on the long-standing diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and Japan and highlighted the broad trade and investment opportunities available in Ethiopia.
He also provided information on priority investment sectors, opportunities for Japanese investors to participate in Ethiopia’s economy, and the country’s ongoing development activities supported by economic reforms.
The ambassador also raised current regional and national issues. He stated that, at a time when Ethiopia is registering rapid economic growth and development, certain domestic and external forces are allegedly working to disrupt the country’s development, continued growth, and prosperity, as well as regional stability.
Ambassador Daba further explained Ethiopia’s position and its efforts to resolve existing challenges through peaceful means. He emphasized that activities by what he described as anti-peace forces pose a threat to peace and stability in Ethiopia and the wider region.
He called on the Japanese government to take the situation and Ethiopia’s position into consideration and to condemn activities that undermine peace and stability.
Kono Taro, for his part, said that the tensions being observed in the region should be handled carefully and stressed the importance of finding peaceful solutions to the challenges facing the region.
He also stated that Japan would continue to strengthen its efforts to promote peace and stability in the region and would closely monitor developments in Ethiopia and the wider region.
The meeting focused on strengthening Ethiopia-Japan relations in the areas of diplomacy, trade, investment, and development, while also discussing regional peace and stability.
