Egypt and China have drawn a firm line on regional security: The Red Sea is the exclusive responsibility of its bordering states.
During a historic summit in Cairo, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi issued a joint declaration rejecting outside interference in the strategic waterway.
The leaders also emphasized that stability in the Horn of Africa requires strict respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of its nations.

Egypt has recently ramped up coordination with Horn of Africa allies, including Eritrea and Somalia, to block foreign security arrangements in the Red Sea and firmly reject any unilateral actions threatening Somalia’s borders.
