Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a telephone conversation with Democratic Republic of the Congo President Félix Tshisekedi, during which the two leaders discussed bilateral relations and developments in the region.
According to information released after the call, Erdoğan said Türkiye would continue working to expand cooperation with the DRC across several strategic areas, including investment, trade, defense industry and security.
The conversation also focused on the persistent security challenges in eastern DRC, a region that has faced years of instability and armed conflict.
Erdoğan expressed Türkiye’s support for initiatives aimed at resolving the security situation through a lasting and sustainable peace. He also said Ankara was ready to make the necessary contributions to help establish conditions conducive to the implementation of existing agreements.
The Turkish president’s remarks underline Ankara’s growing interest in strengthening its engagement with the Democratic Republic of the Congo, not only through economic and trade relations but also in the fields of defense and security.
For Kinshasa, Türkiye’s willingness to support efforts toward peace in the east comes as the Congolese government continues to seek regional and international backing for initiatives aimed at ending violence and establishing lasting stability.
The call also reflects the broader scope of Türkiye-DRC relations, with both countries looking to deepen economic ties while exploring new areas of strategic cooperation.
As diplomatic efforts continue to address insecurity in eastern Congo, Ankara’s offer to contribute to the implementation of existing agreements could provide another avenue for international support to the peace process.
