Ghana and Saudi Arabia are looking to deepen their economic and strategic partnership, with particular emphasis on railway development, energy infrastructure and investment.
Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, held a bilateral meeting in New York with Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, on the sidelines of the high-level United Nations General Assembly meetings.
The discussions focused on strengthening the already growing relations between Ghana and Saudi Arabia, with infrastructure development emerging as a key area of cooperation. The two sides placed particular emphasis on opportunities for Saudi investment in Ghana’s railway sector and energy infrastructure.
The ministers also agreed to strengthen coordination on a range of continental priorities, particularly as Ghana prepares to assume the Chair of the African Union.
The upcoming leadership role is expected to create additional opportunities for Ghana and Saudi Arabia to engage on issues of mutual interest affecting the African continent, including economic development, investment and infrastructure.
Both sides further agreed to accelerate high-level engagements aimed at mobilising increased Saudi investment in Ghana and supporting the implementation of President John Dramani Mahama’s Reset Agenda, which places economic transformation and development among its key priorities.
The meeting underscored the growing importance of Ghana–Saudi Arabia relations and the potential for stronger economic partnerships to support Ghana’s infrastructure ambitions while creating new avenues for investment and development.
