India and Nigeria are exploring new avenues to strengthen bilateral cooperation in aviation and aerospace development, with a focus on improving air connectivity, developing technical capabilities and establishing maintenance infrastructure in Nigeria.
The discussions took place during a meeting between India’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, H.E. Abhishek Singh, and Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, H.E. Festus Keyamo, at the minister’s office.
The two sides discussed a range of issues aimed at deepening cooperation in the aviation sector, including the implementation of the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) and opportunities to enhance direct air connectivity between India and Nigeria.
Particular attention was also given to the possibility of establishing localized Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) infrastructure in Nigeria. Such facilities could contribute to strengthening local technical capabilities and supporting the development of aviation-related skills and expertise.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of capacity-building and skills development programmes as part of efforts to expand technical cooperation between the two countries.
Both sides described the discussions as positive and constructive and agreed to advance cooperation in the identified areas.
The engagement underscores the shared interest of India and Nigeria in expanding collaboration in aviation and aerospace while creating new opportunities for technical development and strengthening the broader strategic partnership between the two countries.
