Tanzania and India are set to strengthen their air connectivity with the launch of daily direct flights between Dar es Salaam and Mumbai by IndiGo Airlines from November 2026.
The announcement was shared during a meeting at the High Commission of India in Tanzania, where H.E. Shri Bishwadip Dey, High Commissioner of India to Tanzania, received a delegation from IndiGo Airlines led by Mr. Kaizad Pesi Postwalla, Head of Sales – International Markets, together with the airline’s representative in Dar es Salaam.
The delegation briefed the High Commissioner on the airline’s plans to commence daily direct services linking Tanzania’s commercial capital with Mumbai, India’s financial and economic hub.
The new service is expected to provide a significant boost to connectivity between Tanzania and India, offering passengers a more convenient travel option between the two countries.
Daily direct flights could facilitate increased movement of tourists, business travellers, investors, students and members of the Indian and Tanzanian communities, while also supporting stronger commercial and people-to-people ties.
Mumbai, as a major business, financial and transportation centre, also provides travellers from Tanzania with access to IndiGo’s broader network across India and beyond.
Improved air connectivity is widely regarded as an important driver of tourism and economic exchange. The introduction of a daily direct route could create new opportunities for Tanzanian businesses seeking stronger links with the Indian market, while making Tanzania more accessible to Indian travellers.
For Tanzania’s tourism sector, the new connection is also expected to enhance travel convenience for visitors from India and potentially encourage greater tourist arrivals.
The development comes as Tanzania and India continue to deepen their longstanding bilateral relationship across trade, investment, education, health, tourism and other areas of cooperation.
The planned Dar es Salaam–Mumbai service marks another step toward strengthening the aviation bridge between East Africa and India.
With daily direct flights scheduled to begin in November 2026, the new route is poised to make travel between Tanzania and India faster and more convenient, while opening additional avenues for tourism, trade, investment and cultural exchange.
The announcement by IndiGo therefore represents more than a new flight connection—it signals growing opportunities for closer ties between the people and economies of Tanzania and India.
