The festive atmosphere is already building in Ethiopia ahead of Irreechaa, one of the most important cultural celebrations of the Oromo people. This traditional thanksgiving festival, marked by gatherings, songs, dances and vibrant cultural expressions, will take place this weekend in Addis Ababa and Bishoftu.
In Addis Ababa, the celebrations are scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2026, before continuing on Sunday, October 4, in Bishoftu, a city located about 50 kilometers southeast of the Ethiopian capital.
A major cultural gathering, Irreechaa is traditionally associated with expressing gratitude and celebrating nature, life and community. Each year, the festival brings together large numbers of participants dressed in traditional attire, creating a colorful and deeply festive atmosphere.
For the 2026 edition, Addis Ababa and Bishoftu are once again preparing to host this emblematic celebration of Oromo culture, offering participants and visitors an opportunity to experience the richness of Ethiopia’s traditions.
As the event approaches, excitement is growing in both cities, with preparations underway for a weekend dedicated to culture, togetherness and thanksgiving.
