Ms. Takahashi, Director-General and Assistant Minister of the African Affairs Department at Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), met with Engr. Habu Gumel, President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), during her visit to Nigeria on August 26.
Ms. Takahashi was accompanied by H.E. Ambassador Suzuki during the meeting, which focused on the potential for strengthening Japan-Nigeria relations through sports.
The two sides held a productive exchange of views on opportunities to promote further sporting exchanges between Japan and Nigeria. Discussions highlighted the important role of sports in bringing people and communities together, while creating opportunities for greater mutual understanding and cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting also underscored the potential for expanded collaboration between relevant sporting institutions in Japan and Nigeria, particularly through exchanges involving athletes, officials and sports organizations.
The engagement forms part of broader efforts to deepen the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Japan and Nigeria, with sports serving as an important avenue for strengthening people-to-people ties.
Both sides expressed interest in exploring opportunities for further exchanges and cooperation in the sporting sector.
