A farewell and appreciation ceremony was held in honor of H.E. Ambassador Daba Debele, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Japan, Myanmar, and Laos.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials of the Japanese government, ambassadors and diplomats representing various countries, representatives of Japanese companies, members of the media, Ethiopians living in Japan, and Japanese friends of Ethiopia.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Daba Debele highlighted the long-standing and historic relationship between Ethiopia and Japan. He said that during his tenure, he had worked to strengthen the relationship between the two countries not only at the governmental level but also among their peoples and institutions, including businesses, universities, civil society organizations, and communities.
The Ambassador noted that these efforts had produced encouraging results and contributed to bringing the peoples and institutions of Ethiopia and Japan closer together.
Ambassador Daba also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Government and people of Japan, the staff of the Ethiopian Embassy, members of the diplomatic community, and the Ethiopian diaspora for their cooperation and support throughout his tenure.
He extended special appreciation to his wife, H.E. Mrs. Worknesh Biru, and their children for standing by his side and providing unwavering support throughout his diplomatic service.
Representing Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, H.E. Kinimitsu Ayano, Assistant Minister and Director-General for African Affairs at Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Misako Takahashi, conveyed a message of appreciation on behalf of the ministry.
In her message, Ambassador Takahashi commended Ambassador Daba Debele for his significant contribution to strengthening the longstanding relationship between Ethiopia and Japan during his tenure. She expressed her hope that he would continue to serve as a bridge between the two countries in the next chapter of his career.
Other government officials and members of Japan’s business community who attended the ceremony also expressed their appreciation for Ambassador Daba Debele’s service and wished him success and fulfillment in his future endeavors.
The ceremony provided an opportunity for colleagues, partners, friends, and members of the Ethiopian and Japanese communities to recognize Ambassador Daba Debele’s diplomatic contributions and celebrate the strong ties between Ethiopia and Japan.
