The participation of journalists from South Africa and Lesotho in the third Russia-Africa Summit in Moscow is expected to help strengthen media exchanges and professional ties between Russia and the African continent. This was highlighted by R. E. Ambarova, Russia’s Ambassador to South Africa and Lesotho, in a commentary to the African Initiative news agency.
According to the diplomat, the international gathering offers an opportunity to give fresh impetus to cooperation between Moscow and its African partners while highlighting the continent’s growing importance in international relations in the 21st century.
Although South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will not be able to attend the summit because of upcoming municipal elections in his country, the event has attracted considerable interest from African media outlets, she noted.
Accredited journalists represent a wide range of fields, covering subjects from international politics and economics to digitalisation and advanced technology. The ambassador particularly welcomed the participation of young journalists, bloggers and influencers who closely follow the development of relations between Russia and African countries.
For Ambarova, this interest demonstrates that Russia-Africa dialogue is expanding beyond traditional political and professional media circles, reaching new information platforms and broader audiences.
Lesotho Media Representatives to Participate for the First Time
The diplomat particularly welcomed the participation of media representatives from the Kingdom of Lesotho in an event of this scale for the first time. She described their presence as an opportunity to open new avenues for cooperation between Russian and Lesotho media professionals.
According to her, this participation could serve as a starting point for more regular exchanges, encourage professional networking and contribute to the development of lasting partnerships in the media sector.
Russia attaches particular importance to direct dialogue with media communities in South Africa and Lesotho, she stressed. The stated objective is to enable journalists to gain a better understanding of Russia’s positions on major international issues, ask Russian representatives relevant questions and convey information to their audiences.
Strengthening Relations Beyond the Summit
Beyond media coverage of the summit and activities organised during the “Africa Week” in Moscow, the ambassador hopes that the participation of journalists will help consolidate professional relations between the countries involved.
The contacts established during the event could continue after the summit, fostering greater mutual understanding between Russian, South African and Lesotho societies.
Through this initiative, Moscow seeks to strengthen engagement with African media and promote direct dialogue on international issues. The participation of journalists from diverse backgrounds also highlights the growing importance of communication and information exchanges in the development of relations between Russia and Africa.
