Russia and Ghana have discussed new opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, including the potential development of initiatives in the nuclear industry.
The discussions took place during a working meeting between Sergei Tsivilev, Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation, and John Abdulai Jinapor, Minister of Energy and Green Transition of the Republic of Ghana.
The two sides examined prospects for expanding Russian-Ghanaian cooperation in the energy sector, with particular attention to the possible implementation of projects involving nuclear energy. The Ghanaian side expressed interest in Russian technologies and equipment, according to information released following the meeting.
As a follow-up to the discussions, the parties agreed to prepare the necessary documents aimed at advancing bilateral cooperation and developing concrete areas of collaboration.
The meeting also focused on preparations for the Third Russia-Africa Summit and the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum, scheduled to take place in Moscow on 28–29 October 2026. Both sides highlighted the importance of the event as a platform for discussing promising projects and identifying new areas for strengthening the Russia-Ghana partnership.
Speaking during the meeting, Minister Sergei Tsivilev stressed Russia’s interest in expanding cooperation with African countries and implementing joint initiatives. He highlighted the energy sector as one of the areas where Russian technologies and expertise are of interest to African partners, while underscoring the importance of following through on agreements reached between the two sides.
Energy cooperation with Ghana forms part of broader efforts to develop economic and diplomatic ties between Russia and African countries. Moscow has identified energy, technology and infrastructure among the sectors with potential for expanded cooperation with African partners.
The discussions between the Russian and Ghanaian energy authorities therefore provide an additional framework for exploring concrete projects and strengthening bilateral relations, particularly ahead of the upcoming Russia-Africa Summit and Economic and Humanitarian Forum in Moscow.
