Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has organized a cultural diplomacy tour for foreign ambassadors and representatives of United Nations agencies to showcase the country’s rich cultural heritage, history and national identity.
The tour, held on October 8, 2026, was led by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, H.E. Hamza Adan Haadoow, and brought together members of the diplomatic corps and the international community based in Somalia.
The delegation visited three key cultural institutions: the Somali National Theatre, the Somali National Museum and the National Academy of the Somali Language.
The visits provided participants with an opportunity to explore Somalia’s historical legacy, artistic traditions, literature and linguistic heritage, while gaining a deeper understanding of the cultural foundations that shape the country’s national identity.
The initiative forms part of the Ministry’s broader efforts to advance cultural diplomacy, strengthen international engagement and foster greater appreciation of Somalia’s heritage among foreign diplomatic missions and international organizations.
By introducing diplomatic representatives to the country’s cultural and educational institutions, the Ministry seeks to broaden the scope of international relations beyond traditional political and economic engagements.
The initiative also highlights the role of culture as a tool for building mutual understanding, promoting dialogue and strengthening ties between nations.
Through such engagements, Somalia continues to use cultural diplomacy to project its history, creativity and national heritage to the wider world, while fostering stronger and more meaningful relationships with international partners.
The tour underscores the government’s commitment to placing Somalia’s cultural identity at the heart of its diplomatic outreach and international cooperation.
