India’s Ambassador-designate to Ethiopia, Devesh Uttam, called on President Droupadi Murmu ahead of taking up his diplomatic assignment in Addis Ababa.
During the meeting, Uttam received the President’s guidance as he prepares to represent India in Ethiopia. He was also formally presented with his Letter of Credence, the diplomatic document accrediting an ambassador to the host country.
The engagement comes as India and Ethiopia continue to strengthen their longstanding bilateral relationship, with cooperation spanning trade, investment, development partnerships, education, agriculture, technology and capacity building.
As ambassador-designate, Uttam will be tasked with advancing India’s diplomatic and economic interests in Ethiopia while further deepening relations between the two countries.
His assignment is also expected to focus on expanding opportunities for greater economic engagement between Indian and Ethiopian businesses, alongside strengthening people-to-people and institutional ties.
India and Ethiopia have maintained close diplomatic relations for decades, with both countries also cooperating through broader India-Africa and multilateral platforms.
The President’s guidance ahead of Uttam’s posting underscores the importance New Delhi places on its engagement with Ethiopia and the wider African region. The ambassador-designate is now set to begin his mission with the mandate of further consolidating bilateral ties and identifying new areas of cooperation.
